How To Add A New Colour To Your Wardrobe

One wardrobe dilema I often face is how to add a new colour into my wardrobe? I am very much a lover of black, grey, navy and dark / minimal shades, so when I am faced with adding a completely new, brighter colour to my wardrobe I am initially hit with the fear of: “What the hell am I going to wear this with?”. Which is the exact thought that crossed my mind when I fell in love with these amazing real suede red boots on the ASOS website for under £50. Yes, under £50!

So, paired with the first ever pink coat I have owned in my life – and the only current pink item in my wardrobe (minus some underwear) – below you will see how I have introduced red and pink to my wardrobe and some of my top tips for adding a new and foreign colour to your wardrobe.

1. Make a bold statement with similar / contrasting colours

When I saw my red boots and pink coat sitting together in my dressing room, I knew that they were a colour contrast match made in heaven. So, it only seemed fitting to pair them both together for today’s look. Other similar contrasting colours you could try are orange and a dark rust, forest green with a lighter or turquoise shade and even purple and burgundy. Try to compare two different colours from each end of the spectrum from light to dark and just have fun playing around with colour blocking combinations. I am sure the list is endless and this is sure to make a bold statement with any outfit.

2. Pair with a neutral / dark base colour

To make your choice of colour clash pop, opt for a neutral or dark base. Here I am wearing grey instead of black, co-ordinating all of my items from my grey suede skirt to my amazing new Iolla grey tortoise shell frames.  Which are fashionable, quirky, match my outfit colour base and FYI, all frames on iolla.com are only £65!

3. Let The Accessories Do The Talking

If you are unsure of how to add a new colour to your wardrobe, start by adding this to an all black or tonal outfit with an introductory accessory to ease you into the new hue. This could be with a scarf, brightly coloured bag, or even a lipstick! My new precious red suede boots are the first red item to be introduced to my wardrobe for LONG time and I love them SO much I think I may have to add some more of this colour to other areas of my wardrobe – Hurrah!

What do you think of this look? It is something a little different for me, so I would love to know how you incoporate a new colour into you wardrobe. As always, if you like this look I have linked to the items I am wearing below.
