How To Reach Your Body and Fitness Goals

And feel good whilst doing it…

For those of you who don’t already know, I am getting married in June next year and although I may have slacked on my fitness recently – due to an injury, followed by lack of motivation / feeling rubbish about myself and then a heavy workload – I have now given my fitness journey the kick up the a**e it deserves and have gotten my motivation back to reach my body goals for next year. I mean, nothing screams “sort yourself out love” more than heading abroad with a group of family and friends with the dread of every man and his dog seeing your bikini body.

For me, I find confidence to be beautiful, so no matter what shape or size you are, you can rock that string bikini. But, I for one lack confidence in most areas of my life, especially when it comes to my figure, let alone being seen in a bikini: the horror! So, for my wedding and honeymoon I want to be body confident and feel the best I can so that I enjoy it in it’s entirity, rather than being self concious about my body. And after that Loooooong intro, I thought I would put together a post for you on some of the tips that have helped me to kick start my fitness regime so I can reach my body and fitness goals by June (fingers crossed)….

Choose a Sport / Workout You Love / Enjoy

If you hate riding a bike, then don’t do it! If you are going to stick to your fitness routine to achieve your goals then you are best to choose a sport / activity / workout that you enjoy doing. For example, I love running as I find it helps me to de-stress as well as doubling up as an activity with my dog Brody, replacing daily walks. I also love doing short burst of high intensity training, either via interval sprints / jogging or Youtube videos

Set Realistic Goals

My goals for next year are to tone up my whole body and to have a set of abs and an ass that I can be proud of. I am not looking to lose weight as such, rather change my body. So I won’t be stepping on the scales anytime soon and will instead be going off measurements, tone and hopefully a lack of cellulite and jiggle. Strong is the new skinny, as they say, and I am more keen to embark on a healthy eating plan and an exercise routine that will give me also a healthy body: rather than starving myself of calories or avoiding eating whatsoever.

On my fitness mission I am also determined to change the way that I look at food and adopt a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. Rather than bingeing and purging, which is what I would usually do with re-stricting calories and then pigging out to defy my own rules. So I guess I am looking to change my thoughts mentally too. So. Although the above will prove hard. I am not saying that I want a body like a Victoria Secrets’ model, to lose 2 stone or anything that is unachievable in the next 7 months.

Create a Workout Playlist

Whether this is via putting your favourite songs together, or creating a Youtube playlist of exercise videos to keep you motivated. I have a ‘workout tunes’ playlist on my Spotify that I update weekly with mainly dance / upbeat tracks and I find that if I am not in the mood to go running in the dark after work, that putting this on really does boots my motivation levels and gets me out of the front door! I also love adding YouTube videos to my ‘Briday Fitness Playlist’ and at the moment I am obsessing over the 30 day fat burn programme, doing a different video at least 4/5 days of the week in the comfort of my own living room.

Invest In New Workout Gear

Nothing screams ‘get me to the gym’ than wanting to show off your new workout gear. Just with your everyday wardrobe, you should have a fitness wardrobe that you feel comfortable and look good in, which also supports your body whilst working out too. Before I tried these Sweaty Betty running leggings I would have thought that around £100 seemed a ridiculous amount to spend on a pair of workout pants. BUT, these have completely changed my running game compared to my £35 Nike running tights. I find they support me SO much better, that I can run for longer in them and that they also do a good job of hugging my body in all of the right places. And from now on I can safely say that I will be investing more in my workout wardrobe for motivation and feeling good!

Don’t be too hard on yourself

Although you are embarking on reaching an end desired goal for your body and fitness desires, also remember to have fun with it. If you miss a few workout sessions or have had a few days of naughty food, don’t beat yourself up about it. I tend to find that if you do it can then have a triangle effect on your fitness regime and habits. For example, having one bad day and thinking ‘F*** It’, then pigging out for the rest of the weekend, saying ‘I will start again on Monday’, which can then repeat itself four times in a month! So, if you do slip up, just brush it under the carpet. Then fix your fitness head on and visualise your desired body in your mind to keep motivated and carry on achieving your goals.

So those are my tips for working your way towards your desired body and fitness goals. Hopefully in the next 7 months hard work and determination will pay off and I can share some updates with you on my blog about any specific foods or workouts I have been enjoying. If that is something you would be interested to see and to follow my fitness journey with me, then do let me know! As always, thanks for reading and if you have any fitness motivation tips I would love for you to share them with me in the comments section below.

Great post, I also love running and to keep myself motivated I set weekly distance goals on my ‘map my run’ app! I also mix it up with HIIT workouts by Kayla Itsines!
Good Luck with your goals for your wedding!

    • Thanks Sarah! That is something I really need to do as I currently don’t use any running apps, and I will defintely look for Kayla Itsines as I haven’t heard of her before – thank you! xx

I definitely agree that you have to find something you love, or at least want to do. I know for myself I absolutely can’t stand running but I do love dancing, boxing and doing pilates/different Youtube videos so I just stick to that. If I was forced to run I probably wouldn’t ever exercise!

    • It totally helps. I HATED running at school but since getting Brody, as it means I get dog walking done quicker and kill two birds with one stone I now like it lol but i prefer free weights work and quick bursts at home. Thanks for reading lovely xx

Thanks for sharing! I started to visit gym, but for last few month left it. Hope to start again in soon)

    • I think it is this time of year, it gets so hard to motivate yourself when it is dark and cold and you wear baggy clothes all of the time. I need a bit of a boost this month too TBH xx
