Minimal Dressing Style Tips

Hurrah! Another outfit tips post is finally here. As well as Lurchhoundloves 2.0 and a brand spanking new blog design by the talented Rebekah Dale. You should now be able to navigate around the site easier, see my latest Youtube videos and outfits on the homepage and get my looks with ease.

(It also looks pretty cool on mobile too, if I do say so myself!)

But back to today’s post. As I enjoyed putting this post together so much, I thought I would do an update on my ‘minimal’ wardrobe. Keep on reading for my easy tips to put a minimal look together…

Monochrome Trainers are a minimal wardrobe staple

A strong footing for any minimal wardrobe is a white, black or monochrome pair of sneakers. I have white Stan Smiths, monochrome Superstars, Converse in both colours and now the fabulous addition of leather Vans Old Skool. Shop from a fab selection of monochrome trainers here

Make a Statement in Knitwear

Knitwear is a minimal lover’s style staple. The key to keeping knitwear ‘minimal’ is to opt for black, white, grey or neutral colours and usually to try and keep knitwear pieces in one block colour or a maximum of two: so no cray cray patterns I am afraid. Shop a selection of minimal knitwear here.

Grab Yourself a Leather Backpack!

If you are looking for a new bag this season, then a quality leather backpack is a great choice. Not only do they have the capacity to hold half of your kitchen sink inside them. They also add a minimal vibe to your outfit. My lovely new edition is from Jane Shilton and the structured, yet soft black leather, makes this mini backpack a true minimal accessory.

Embrace your inner Jedi

OK, so I couldn’t resist writing this as I resemled a Star Wars Jedi at the weekend, whilst walking in the rain with my Yoda hood up. So, rather than taking dressing tips from Luke Skywalker, instead: get yourself a hooded or robed / dressing gown coat. I love my navy number from The Fifth Label, which feels at least twice as expensive than it costs and is an updated version of the duster coat. Shop my favourite minimal coats here.

Stick to a muted colour palette

As mentioned above, a key rule of minimalistic dressing is sticking to a muted colour palette. My favourite colours for the minimal trend are white, black, navy, grey and some camel tones. Try to stick to plan clothing, rather than patterns, and try to create ensembles that consist of two colours (three maximum) if you really want to master minimal dressing.

Those trainers are just lovely! I really like the muted colours, too; so easy to wear and go with so much!

    • Definitely! I am such a ‘basic b****’ haha – but then I never regret something I have bought – which I always do wit crazy colours. I am probably just a bit too conservative when it comes to dressing – but I like it! xx
